On Wednesday, October 13, 2021, Lake Balboa College Preparatory Magnet K-12 will
administer the PSAT/NMSQT (Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test/National
Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test) to all  9th,10th and 11th graders. The District will
cover the PSAT/NMSQT exam fees for all 10th graders. The exam fee for freshman
and juniors will be paid by the school this year.
Approximately 3.8 million students nationwide take the PSAT/NMSQT each fall. Taking the
PSAT/NMSQT provides the following advantages to students:
● The PSAT/NMSQT measures skills in three academic areas: reading, writing and
language, and math. The test lasts approximately 3 hours and 50 minutes, which includes
breaks and pre-administration activities.
● The PSAT/NMSQT score report will tell students where their strengths and improvement
areas are and their potential for advanced courses such as the AP program.
● Students may opt into the Student Search Service to start receiving admission and
financial aid information from certified colleges, universities and scholarship
agencies. Learn more at collegeboard.org/sat-suite-scholarships or scholarship providers.
● The PSAT/NMSQT provides practice for the SAT, a college admissions test.
● High achieving juniors who score well may qualify for National Merit Recognition
and Scholarships and other scholarship and recognition programs. Go to
www.nationalmerit.org to learn more.
● PSAT/NMSQT test takers receive a free personalized PSAT/NMSQT college planning kit
online. Using a unique access code on the score report, students have access to an online
PSAT/ NMSQT Score Report and feedback on their readiness for 20+ AP courses, a free
